Davey’s Dugout: Volume 2
Written: October 8, 2026
A Note from Amanda
Davey believes that a good dad is a steady presence—a “warm hug” in a complicated world. This week, he’s sharing how he uses his letters to teach the big life skills, even when he isn’t there to hold the flashlight.
The Driver’s Seat: Leaving a Road Map
By: Davey Miller
Being a dad is about being reliable and solid. It’s about being the guy who comes to get you at 2:00 AM, no questions asked. But I want my kids to have my voice in their heads before they have to make that call.
The “Life Skill” Letter
I focus on “Life Skills” alongside “Life Love”. I want to leave them a playbook for the practical stuff: how to change a tire, how to treat a partner with respect, and how to bounce back.
Sample Letter: The “License to Drive”
This one is for my daughter. It’s tucked into her “Open When” archive for the day she gets her driver’s license.

First off, check your mirrors. Second, take a breath.
I know you’re excited to have this freedom, but remember that the car is just a tool—it’s the person behind the wheel that matters. I wrote this because I want you to know that no matter how far you drive, or if you ever get lost, you can always call home. I’ll come get you, no questions asked.
I’m proud of the woman you’re becoming. Also, don’t forget to check the oil. I showed you how twice.
Love, Dad
