Maya’s Minute: Volume 2

A Note from Amanda

Maya is the queen of finding “pockets of time.” Today, she’s proving that you don’t need a mahogany desk and a quiet house to write a legacy—sometimes, you just need a steering wheel and a five-minute delay in the school pickup line.

The Sideline Session: Writing in the “In-Between”

By: Maya Hayes

I’m writing this while sitting in my car at soccer practice. The sun is setting, my Stanley cup is officially empty, and I have exactly seven minutes before the coach blows the final whistle and the “I’m hungry” chorus begins.

Usually, I’d spend these seven minutes mindlessly scrolling. But today, I pulled out my Starter Kit.

The Five-Minute Rule

I used to think writing letters to my kids had to be this big, emotional event. I thought I needed a glass of wine and a candle. But honestly? My best thoughts happen when I’m actually in the chaos.

What I wrote today:

  • The “Today You…” Note: I wrote about how my daughter tried to “save” a worm from the sidewalk this morning. It took me three minutes.
  • The “Current Fave” List: I jotted down the three songs my son makes me play on repeat in the car. (Yes, we are still in a heavy ‘Encanto’ phase. Send help.)

These aren’t novels, mamas. They are snapshots. They are the “Quick Wins” that tell our kids, “I was paying attention to the little things.”

If you have five minutes, you have enough time. Grab the pen!
